Superior Surge Protection with Practical Applications

Electrical overvoltage transients can happen at any time and are not just from lightning. Overvoltage transients can be caused any time electrical current is switched off or on. Compressors, motors, pumps and HVAC, are just a few examples of equipment that can generate large transients, and couple this with grid switching, equipment failures and human error your equipment exists in a harsh environment. Lightning discharges (even more than a mile away) can induce overvoltage transients into the wires and conductors themselves via electromagnetic waves (think radio waves). What that means is that you can find your critical automation and process control equipment and machinery experiencing surges that can easily damage and destroy it, bringing on a system shutdown.

ZeroDT “Zero Down Time” utilizes non-degrading Silicon Avalanche Suppression Diode (SASD) technology to combat these overvoltages. Competitive products that utilize Gas Discharge Tubes (GDTs) or Metal Oxide Varistors (MOVs) or combinations, but they degrade with every surge or transient that comes down the line. They may work well on the day they are installed but usage takes its toll and your equipment is eventually damaged or destroyed. With ZeroDT’s SASD protection technology, that worry goes away – your equipment has the same level of protection five years down the road that it did on day one. Another advantage of the SASD protection technology is that it has the response time capability to react to those lightning-fast events (no technology is faster). At ZeroDT, we’ve created advanced field-deployed products that help ensure you don’t experience electrical equipment damage and system downtime.

Take Advantage of a Powerful Surge Protection Device

There is more to look at than the cost of your equipment to be replaced: planning, engineering, and the labor cost to commission your process, not to mention the loss of revenue with a shutdown. ZeroDT specializes in specifying overvoltage surge protection for any process or application.

ZeroDT has found a niche in multiple different industries protecting delicate instrumentation. Any industry that uses remote measurements or controlled devices can be susceptible to lightning-induced overvoltage transients into the field cables. Those remote/field devices need overvoltage protection, and ZeroDT field protectors are designed to be small enough to mount inside the equipment you want to protect. Real estate is key.

When it comes to surge protection, the rule of thumb is to mount your surge protection device or SPD as close to the protected equipment as possible. As wire length is time and voltage – you need to respond to overvoltages FAST and you need to keep the voltages as low as possible.

  • Non-degrading SASD technology
  • Response time of fewer than 5 nanoseconds
  • Suitability for multiple communications and power applications (both analog and digital)
  • Repeatable voltage clamping levels
  • Small form factor allows mounting inside the transmitter enclosure for optimal protection
  • Suitable for use in hazardous locations (Class 1, Div 2)

With all those benefits, ZeroDT provides you with the superior technology in a design that is optimized for providing protection in your application. With your new ZeroDT device, your equipment is protected from overvoltages and damage of those surge currents.
